Farron heralds British food fortnight
South Lakes MP Tim Farron has used the start of British food fortnight as an opportunity to herald the Cumbrian food and brewing industry.
Tim has said Britain and especially Cumbria produces some of the best food and drink in the world, and British Food Fortnight is the annual opportunity to celebrate it. The Fortnight is also home to the Bring Home the Harvest campaign, which aims to rekindle the tradition of celebrating British food and the harvest across the nation; in homes, in the streets, in schools, churches, farms, hospitals, restaurants, pubs, shops and in community centres, food will be harvested, sold, purchased, prepared, eaten and enjoyed.
Hundreds of activities are taking place across the country during British Food Fortnight. The event is the biggest showcase of food on the national calendar and celebrates its twelfth year with more activities than ever before for people to get involved, with a particular emphasis on schools, communities and young people.
Celebrations taking place across the country will include promotions, tastings and special menus in pubs, restaurants and shops, special events in care homes for the elderly, scrumptious servings of British food in garden centre cafes, patriotic menus in hospitals, family feasts in children's centres and lots of fun food and drink festivals and country fairs.
