Farron helps Cumbria plug in to govt funds

Electric car charging points are to be installed across Cumbria, the Deputy Prime Minister has revealed.

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg today announced the authorities that had put in successful bids as part of the Government's Go Ultra Low campaign.

The awarding of this grant, which will get an additional 25 per cent of private sector funding to take the total project value to more than £750,000, will see charging points installed in Carlisle, Penrith, Kendal, Barrow, Workington, Whitehaven, Keswick, Millom and Cockermouth. The county council submitted the bid with the support of Britain's Energy Coast, Solway Renewables and the district councils and cross-party letters of support from all six of Cumbria's MPs.

Tim said: "This is great news and this funding will help kick-start this industry. This is yet another sign that our lobbying for infrastructure is working.

"This will also boost our tourism sector too. We will keep working hard to build on this success."
