South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed news that two organisations in South Cumbria are to be awarded Big Lottery funds to help develop employability and training programmes in the region.

The YWCA Kendal will benefit from a grant of £4,781 to be spent on new projects which will develop a range of community programmes to help give life and employability skills within the community.

The money will be used to offer people the opportunity to access services that will provide them with skills and knowledge to gain employment and promote independent living.

The news comes as a major boost to Tim's continued efforts to increase job opportunities and develop employment in the area.

Commenting, Tim said "I am delighted with the award of these grants to local organisations, they will provide fantastic opportunities for local people to further their personal development and empower them with the skills they need to build their careers.

Even though we have the lowest unemployment rates in England here, we must continue to do more to support young people into work and help create well paid jobs in our community. I want us to build on this success and do even more to help our local young people"
