Farron hails move to make government more rural friendly

Following an announcement this morning by Environment Minister, Richard Benyon, about the introduction of a new "hotline to the heart of Government" for rural communities through the new Rural and Farming Network, Cumbrian MP Tim Farron, has welcomed the move to make government policies more rural-friendly.

Business leaders in Cumbria will benefit from this fast-track style service through the Cumbria & North Lancashire Farming, Food & Rural Group, which will join 14 other rural farming networks set up to identify and feedback on local issues and concerns.

Will Cockbain, former Uplands spokesperson for the National Farmers' Union and recently appointment Board Member for Natural England will be chairing the Cumbria and North Lancashire Rural and Farming Network.

Commenting Tim said: "For too long successive Governments have ignored rural communities and failed to recognise their potential to increase economic growth nationwide. The new Cumbria and North Lancashire Rural and Farming Network will enable farmers and business owners across Cumbria to make a much more significant contribution to vital policy areas. With Will Cockbain as the Chair I have no doubt that the important issues facing Cumbria will get the attention they deserve."
