Farron: Government’s announcement on public sector pay a “slap in the face” for most public sector workers

12 Sep 2017

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed the Government's announcement to give police and prison officers a pay rise but has attacked their decision to not lift the pay cap for the rest of the public sector.

Tim said: "This announcement will come as a relief to police officers who've had an effective 10% pay cut under the Conservatives.

"But this does nothing to address the huge loss in the number of officers in Cumbria which damages policing as much as poor pay.

"It's also a huge slap in the face for hard-working teachers, nurses and carers who will be wondering why the pay cap hasn't been lifted for them."
