South Lakes MP Tim Farron has today commented on the news that Cumbria Police will not investigate the Care Quality Commission for failing to act on their 2012 report into maternity services at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust.

Tim originally wrote to the Metropolitan Police and asked them to look into whether any crimes were committed during the alleged cover-up. The Met passed the case to the Cumbrian force who today said that they will not investigate the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for their failings identified within the Grant Thornton report.

Tim said: "If the police suggest there is no need to launch a formal investigation then, while I am surprised, they are the experts and I will stand by their decision. What is important to me is that we get justice for the families and I hope that the independent inquiry will help us get to the truth about what happened."
