Farron calls for ambitious tidal energy scheme across Morecambe Bay

South Lakes MP, Tim Farron, has used Business Questions in the House of Commons to call for a debate to discuss the possibility of a future large-scale tidal energy scheme across Morecambe Bay.

In light of the recent resignation from the Labour front benches by Neath MP, Peter Hain, who is stepping back in order to concentrate his efforts on the campaign to build a tidal barrage across the River Severn -Tim called for the debate to discuss the future of other potential projects such as one in Morecambe Bay.

The project, if it were to go ahead, has the potential to use tidal movements to create a massive boost in sustainable clean and cheap energy while ensuring the creation of thousands of jobs both in construction and in hydro manufacturing, assisting firms such as Gilkes in Kendal.

Commenting afterwards Tim said: "I wanted to raise this potentially massive project to make sure that the plans get a new impetus. Tidal energy in Morecambe Bay would be a huge boost to the local economy and would be a massive step forward for clean green energy production."
