Farron backs non-league day
South Lakes MP Tim Farron is urging people in Cumbria to go and watch the likes of Kendal Town or Barrow FC as he backs Non-League Day which takes place on Saturday 6th September.
Non-League Day provides a platform for clubs to promote the importance of affordable volunteer led community football while giving fans across the country the chance to show support for their local non-league side.
Many non-league clubs are almost exclusively volunteer run, with money taken at the turnstiles often funding thriving youth set-ups, projects and facilities which are of benefit to the whole community. This Saturday, Kendal Town are playing Brighouse Town at Park Side Road in Kendal at 3pm.
Tim said: "I am a Blackburn fan through and through, but I'm also a Kendal Town fan. Local non-league clubs are at the heart of the community for many towns up and down the country. Non-League day allows us to pay tribute to our local clubs and wider grass roots football."
Local councillor Matthew Severn added: "On Saturday I am excited to be going to watch Kendal Town FC my local non-league team. Non-league football is the beating heart of the sport, run mostly by volunteers who give up time and money for the simple joy of bringing sporting pride to their town. Non-league trains youngsters of all ages and gives us all the chance to cheer on a real local team. I hope lots of people join me on Saturday at Kendal Town! "
