Local MP Tim Farron is getting behind this year's Carers Week, 'My Life as a Carer' held from 11th to 17 June. Carers Week raises awareness of the UK's six million carers - people who look after a loved one who is ill, frail or disabled. 'My Life as a Carer' will focus on the impact caring can have on people's finances, career, relationships and health. Events will be taking place across the UK during the Week to help highlight the support and services that are available to carers, regardless of their age or background.

The campaign has a host of celebrity supporters including Esther Rantzen; Phyllida Law; David Jason, Sheila Hancock and Sally Lindsay. Along with other MPs, Tim has this week put his name to an Early Day Motion aimed at providing parliamentary support to Carers Week.

Tim Farron said,

"This week provides the perfect opportunity for carers within our community to come together and share experiences and advice with people in similar but often difficult situations.

"It highlights not only the important role that carers play in enhancing the lives of others but also makes carers themselves aware of the support and services that are available to them locally."

Carers Week is a partnership of seven UK-wide charities working together: Carers UK; Counsel and Care; Crossroads Caring for Carers; Macmillan Cancer Support; MS Society; Rethink and The Princess Royal Trust for Carers.
