Farron backs 'Be clear on cancer' campaign

South Lakes MP Tim Farron is urging people to look out for the symptoms of kidney or bladder cancer.

Public Health England says Kidney and Bladder Cancer is claiming around 300 lives a year in Cumbria and Lancashire. Across the North West, that number rises to more than 1,100 annual deaths.

The figures have been released as part of a new awareness campaign, in efforts to cut the number of cancer-related deaths in the region. Doctors say anyone spotting any signs of 'blood in their pee', even if it's only the once, should see their GP immediately.

The advice supports the launch of the national "Be Clear on Cancer" campaign from Public Health England, which sets out to increase early diagnosis of kidney and bladder cancer and help save lives.

Tim is also using this evidence to further make his case to bring radiotherapy services to Westmorland GeneralHospital.

Tim said: "One of the most significant steps you can take to increase the likelihood of your survival is to be diagnosed as early as possible. It is probably nothing serious, but it could also be a sign of something else that needs treatment, so don't ignore the symptoms or put off a trip to the doctor."
