Farron Addresses Faith Groups In Europe Debate

South Lakeland MP Tim Farron made a pitch to faith communities in a speech last night, warning that Brexit would hit the poor hardest.

Addressing the Northern Archdeacon's Conference in Rydal last night, he said he wanted to stay in Europe not only as a Lib Dem but as a Christian, because Brexit was a war on the poor.

Tim said: "Last year Boris Johnson declared earnings of £635,000. I've no problem with people earning big money, as long as they pay their taxes. But I do have a problem with people who are insulated from the harsh realities of the poverty that I grew up with pushing others into debt and despair.

Tim also expressed concerns that the 'Leave' campaign was seeking to divide communities.

"People of faith don't see British people, French people or any other kind of people - they see people.

"As a Christian, I love my neighbour. I simply don't understand a politics that incites people to hate their neighbour."
