Farron: 1,172 signatures in support of local teaching assistants is ‘overwhelming’
Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron has today welcomed the tremendous level of local support shown to Teaching Assistants across South Lakeland, with the collection of 1,172 signatures from constituents who are backing the campaign to stop the 30% cut in teaching assistant wages.
The signatures collected both in today's Action Day and in schools and businesses across the South Lakes, detail the significant level of local support for teaching assistants who are fighting the County Council's single status implementation strategy.
Commenting at the Action Day, Tim said: "I'm overwhelmed by the level of local support that we've received and that, after only 2 weeks into our petition, we've broken the 1000 mark! We've had people queuing up to sign the petition today which just shows how many people will be affected by these unjustified changes."
"As a parent myself, I understand that teaching assistants play an incredibly vital role in the education our local children. I will continue to fight for them to ensure that the County Council admits that the process needs to be reviewed."
