'Fair trade for British farmers' says Farron!

South Lakes MP, Tim Farron has used a debate in Parliament to step up his campaign for a Grocery Codes Adjudicator to ensure that farmers are paid a fair price for their produce.

Speaking in the Westminster Hall debate Tim called for plans to bring in a Grocery Codes Adjudicator to include proactive powers, not just reactive, so that farmers are properly protected. Tim has long been campaigning for a Grocery Codes Adjudicator or Supermarket Ombudsman, who will be able to ensure fair trade for British farmers and help growth within the agriculture industry.

Speaking after the debate Tim said: "The current situation where farmers are forced to accept extremely low prices for their produce is becoming increasingly unbearable for them and forcing many farmers out of business.

"This is having a hugely detrimental effect on the British agricultural industry, despite a dramatic increase in international demand for dairy and other foods.

"A Grocery Codes Adjudicator, who has proactive powers, will help to guarantee that supermarkets and suppliers pay farmers a fair price for their produce. This will be a huge step forward in protecting not only the future of our farmers, but also of the future of British farming as a whole."
