Extra parking at Oxenholme station will provide some relief

29 Nov 2006

Rail operator Virgin Trains have announced that they are planning to increase the number of parking spaces at Oxenholme station by 44 following pressure from local residents and Lib Dem MP Tim Farron.

The move comes in the light of the ongoing campaign to stop rail users parking on Helmside Road in Oxenholme - thus preventing local residents parking outside their own homes.

MP Tim Farron said: "This is great news from Virgin Trains - the extra spaces will provide some relief to parking problems near the station. I'm sure that residents on Helmside Road will be happy to hear this news, and I am grateful to Virgin Trains.

"However, we must keep up the pressure on other bodies in relation to this issue. Some rail users will still choose to park on Helmside Road, and we need to work with the County Council to ensure that the right parking restrictions are used on Helmside Road, and Hayclose Road which is starting to suffer the same fate."
