The latest figures show that EU Regional Development Funding has created almost 30,000 jobs in the North West, further underlining the EU's benefit to our economy, according to South Lakes MP Tim Farron.

In response to a parliamentary question, Business Minister Anna Soubry has reported that since the beginning of the 2007-2013 programmes, the EU Regional Development Fund programme has created 29,795 jobs in the North West. Over the same period, 9.582 businesses have been created.

EU Regional Development Funding exist to support regional development and promote economic growth.

Tim said: "The EU is of huge benefit to our economy, giving us access to the largest single market in the world with over 500 million customers.

"In addition to the trade benefits, our area also benefits from direct spending by the EU, as these figures show. Even at times when central government can seem to overlook regions such as ours, the EU has provided investment which has helped to create jobs and businesses."
