Don’t take local people for fools – MP blasts post office bosses for treating Post Office closure as done deal
South Lakes MP Tim Farron has accused bosses from Post Office Ltd. of declaring that they will go ahead with the closure of Kendal Post Office regardless of the outcome of their consultation.
Following Post Office Ltd's drop-in session to discuss the proposed move to the much smaller WHSmith store, Tim received a flurry of emails from local residents who were categorically told by post office staff that the move would definitely be going ahead.
As well as this, Post Office Ltd have already submitted a planning application for post office signage for the WHSmith store and are already advertising for staff to work as counter clerks 'new post office' in Kendal's WHSmith.
Tim has since spoken to post office bosses to tell them that local people won't be taken for fools.
Tim said: "We've had an incredible response to our campaign, with 4,000 people signing our petition and many people writing to me to say that they've completed the consultation objecting to the downsizing and downgrading of our post office.
"For local people's views to be ignored in this way is an absolute disgrace.
"This consultation simply must not turn into a sham.
"If Post Office Ltd. think that people in Kendal are going to lie down and accept this process being rigged then they've got another thing coming - they've picked on the wrong town."
