Cyber attack shows need for NHS investment

13 May 2017

Tim Farron has called for the NHS to be given the funding that it requires to update computer security systems to protect it from cyber-attacks like yesterday's, which saw local hospitals grind to a halt.

The Morecambe Bay Trust is one of 45 NHS organisations that were affected by this attack.

The Trust has tweeted to ask patients not to attend A&E unless it's an emergency.

Tim said: "This cyber-attack has hit our NHS and left patients vulnerable. I'd like to thank all hospital staff who have reacted to this cyber-attack with care and professionalism and helped to support patients at this time.

"This attack shows the need to ensure that our NHS is given the funding it needs to update computer security systems to protect it from further attacks in the future.

"Only the Lib Dems have a fully costed plan to invest in our NHS. A penny on income tax will mean an extra £40million for Cumbria's NHS."
