Liberal Democrat crime spokesperson Cllr Pru Jupe has today launched a 'call for evidence' as part of her work to create a new domestic violence strategy for Cumbria Police.

Last year the domestic violence rate was double the burglary rate. Two women are killed by partners or former partners every week. However in over 90% of incidents little or no further action was taken against the perpetrator and little is done to prevent repeat violence.

Pru said:: "During this campaign I pledge to do three things, improve police visibility and bring bobbies back to our towns and villages, secondly I promise to listen to local residents and make their voices heard and thirdly, I will work to end the scourge of violence against women.

"Rather than announce a policy document which has been written by some special political advisor in London, I want to ask the Cumbrian people for their views and ideas and work with them to build a policy that works for us. This is how I will work if elected; I will listen and then lead."
