County Council has got this wrong: MP
Local MP Tim Farron has expressed his disappointment that Cumbria County Council has decided to push ahead with on-street car parking charges. Tim has said that the council has 'got this wrong'.
Carlisle, Penrith, Kendal, Barrow, Workington, Whitehaven, Maryport, Keswick, Cockermouth, Windermere and Bowness and Ambleside are amongst the communities that face the prospect of on street parking charges.
The charges have been opposed by many local businesses and politicians like Tim, who argue it will damage their sales and treat many towns like 'honey pots'.
Lakes councillor Heidi Halliday submitted a petition signed by over 800 local residents opposing the plans. The petition can be found here: https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/say-no-to-on-street-parking-charges
Commenting, Tim said: "This proposal is bad for residents, businesses and communities. The council has got this wrong. I understand they need to save money but this is not the way to do it. This proposal must be looked at again. It's anti-business and will hurt communities throughout Cumbria."
