Comment on Grayrigg accident ministerial statement

19 Jun 2009

Commenting on the release of a ministerial statement on the rail accident at Grayrigg this morning, local MP Tim Farron said:

"I am extremely disappointed by the continued failure to hold a full public inquiry into the Grayrigg tragedy. This is an insult to the memory of Mrs Masson, to the other victims of the crash and to the people of Grayrigg whose lives were turned upside down on that night.

"This failure also makes it much harder for the ongoing uncertainty over railway points to be addressed. The Grayrigg tragedy was caused by points failure, as was the Potters Bar tragedy and countless other near misses which thankfully did not lead to an accident."
