Chris Hogg joins Lib Dem SLDC cabinet
Peter Thornton, the leader of South Lakeland District Council, will tonight announce a single change to the Cabinet of the Lib Dem run council. David Evans is stepping down from the cabinet and will be replaced by Kendal Castle councillor Chris Hogg.
Finance portfolio David Evans is stepping down from the cabinet but will carry on his hard work for local residents in Kendal Mintsfeet, whom he will continue to represent. Both local MP Tim Farron and Peter thanked David after his outstanding contribution to the cabinet and the party over the past four years. The new cabinet is as follows:
- Cllr Peter Thornton - Promoting South Lakeland and Finance Portfolio - Leader
- Cllr Janet Willis - Innovation and Improvement Portfolio - and Deputy Leader
- Cllr Chris Hogg - Culture and the Arts Portfolio
- Cllr Sue Sanderson - Environment and People Portfolio
- Cllr Jonathan Brook - Strategic Growth Portfolio
- Cllr Giles Archibald - Town Centres and Small Business Portfolio
- Cllr Graham Vincent - Health and Well Being Portfolio
Chris has worked in the arts and heritage sector for the last 20 years and previously worked for the National Trust and English Heritage. He has previously represented Kendal Town Council on The Brewery Arts Centre board. He lives in Kendal with his wife Rachael and his son Kain. He is currently serving as Kendal's Deputy Mayor.
Councillor Chris Hogg said: "I very excited to be taking on this new cabinet position. I'm passionate about the exciting work that is being done in the Arts and Heritage sector within South Lakeland. We have many leading players in this area, for example The Wordsworth Trust, Brewery Arts Centre, and Lakes Alive amongst others. We also have a very active and vitally important volunteer community too."
Council Leader Peter Thornton added: "I am sorry that David is stepping down, but I am over the moon that Chris is joining the Cabinet. He will be bringing his skills, passion and expertise to the cabinet. This shows how much we value arts and culture on South Lakeland District Council and how we are working hard to make our area the rural arts hub of the North."
Tim further added: "I am delighted that Chris is joining the council's cabinet. I know how passionate he is about promoting the arts and he will be a wonderful addition to the council's team."
