CANCELLED BUS SERVICE STOPS CARE HOME VISITS
The cancellation of the W1 Sedbergh to Kendal bus service has hit Sedbergh residents hard. One Sedbergh resident, Grace Crawford, is now unable to make daily visits to her husband’s care home, local MP Tim Farron heard after speaking to Grace and her family on a recent stop of his summer tour.
Mrs Crawford’s husband, who has dementia, is a resident of Heron Hill Care Home in Kendal. For the past few years she has made nearly daily visits to her husband.
The cancellation of the W1 bus service ran by Woofs that ran from Sedbergh to Kendal has left her reliant on the kindness of family members to take her across to see her husband in Kendal.
Tim Farron said: “Mrs Crawford’s heartbreaking situation is just one example of the need for public transport between Sedbergh and Kendal, and for rural communities in general.
“I hope that the authorities will hear Mrs Crawford’s story, which is just one among the many others I hear from constituents, where independence is snatched away when public transport is removed.
“It is a timely reminder that in order to thrive, rural communities must be served by good public transport.”
