Ambleside play area set for £200k upgrade

The Lib Dem-run District Council is investing £200K to upgrade the play area in Rothay Park in Ambleside. Local MP Tim Farron has welcomed this decision, saying it will "improve the area for local people and provide a further boost to tourism in the area".

During last year's floods, Rothay Park was badly damaged by the floodwater. South Lakeland District Council has now decided to invest £200K to upgrade the play area and to move it to higher ground within the park so it is less likely to be affected by flooding in the future. The picnic area will also be improved. The work is set to take place this Spring.

Tim said: "I am delighted that the Lib Dem-run District Council has decided to invest this money to upgrade the play area at Rothay Park. This is great news for Ambleside, which will transform the play area and the park as a whole. Not only will it provide a fantastic play area for local residents, it will also provide a further boost to tourism in the area. The floods last year hit this park badly, but thanks to the council's efforts there will soon be a new and better play area which will be more resilient to flooding in the future."
