‘£195,000 price tag for community asset is too much’: Farron

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has claimed that the Yorkshire Dales National Park's £195,000 price tag for 72 Main Street should be lowered to allow community groups to buy the building.

Local community group Sedbergh Townscape Initiative had raised £60,000 to purchase72 Main Streetwhich houses the town's tourist information and local community centre. The building at72 Main Streetin Sedbergh is currently home to many local community groups and charities.

But the National Park rejected the bid and has now put the property on to the open market. Tim is campaigning to persuade the national park to back the community bid and save the building for Sedbergh.

Tim said: "The price tag is massive and could put off local groups from supporting the bid to keep the building in local hands. I am working to make the Yorkshire Dales National Park see sense and support their bid. The Townscape Initiative need the National Park to meet them in the middle and if they do we can make sure charities and local groups can keep this essential hub for their activities."
