Local MP Tim Farron has welcomed the news that work to solve problems with sewage in Burneside after heavy rain is due to start in just a few weeks.

After flooding over recent weekends, Tim again pressed United Utilities to get on with the work.

In reply, United Utilities have confirmed they will start groundwork and investigation work in March, with the main construction work starting in September once planning permission is granted.

Tim said: "Yet again constituents have rung me distressed at raw sewage on the streets of Burneside.

"I was delighted when United Utilities agreed to upgrade the sewage system in Burneside.

"It's now crucial that they get on with the work on the timescale they have given us.

"In the meantime, I would urge residents to contact me and United Utilities if there is a repeat incident."
