MP backs Burton Memorial Hall for ITV People’s Millions
On Wednesday ITV Border will come to film Burton Memorial Hall as they bid to win £60,000 as part of the People's Millions. South Lakes MP Tim Farron is urging local people to back their campaign.
Burton Memorial Hall's bid, should they be successful is to provide specific toilets for the children and a safe play area for its pre-school users, along with a much-needed new heating system and better lighting for the Hall. Burton Parish Council have also joined with Tim and given their full support to the campaign.
The Memorial Hall currently comprises the main hall, two meeting rooms, a doctor's surgery, and several store rooms. It is one of the busiest village halls in the area, being used daily by groups ranging in age from Pre-School to Pensioners, and encompassing all forms of sports, leisure and recreation, as well as frequent fund-raising events.
Burton Memorial Hall has reached the final six projects in the Border TV region and those projects will compete head-to-head over 3 consecutive nights in June in a telephone vote.
On Tuesday 28 June 2011 local group 'Kosy Komfy Kidz' who use the hall will be on television showing off the building and asking local residents to vote for them. They will be battling against a project from Whitehaven. Whichever of these two projects wins the most telephone votes on the day will win up to £60,000 towards their project.
The telephone number to vote for them on will be published on each night on ITV Border news bulletin, it will also be in the Daily Mirror newspaper, and available from the Village Store and the Kings Arms in Burton-in-Kendal.
