South Lakes MP Tim Farron is delighted that the Cabinet Office announced yesterday that Big Society funding has been given to two organisations based in the South Lakes.

Charities across England have today been awarded a total of £81 million in the third wave of payouts from the £107 million Transition Fund to help them prepare for new Big Society opportunities.

In our area the Brathay trust has been awarded £499,800 and the Cumbria Business Education Consortium have been given £78,000. To date, more than 900 charities have received support from the Transition Fund.

Commenting today Tim said: "This is fantastic news! The Brathay Trust works with many of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged both locally and nationally to help them develop the skills, confidence and motivation to make positive choices in their lives. And Cumbria Business Education Consortium has over the last 10 years helped raise the aspirations, motivation & employability of young people by bringing together local schools & businesses."
