The Coalition Government's announcement of an extra £4.8 million for Cumbria's schools has been welcomed by South Lakes MP Tim Farron.

This announcement by the Department for Education will lift all underfunded authorities to the national baseline. This means that Cumbria will receive an extra £4.8 million. Local schools will now receive £4,567 per pupil, an increase of over £100.

Tim said: "This announcement is very welcome news. "The extra funding will go a long way towards addressing the historical funding gap, which meant that Cumbria was getting less to spend on education than most other areas in England.

"I will be pressing the council and education bosses to make sure the money gets to schools as quickly as possible."
