Last night, local Lib Dem members in Westmorland and Lonsdale re-adopted Tim Farron as their candidate for next month's General Election.

Tim was proposed by well-known former Queen Katherine School teacher Sylvia Emmott and seconded by green activist and former local councillor Edward Acland.

Tim has been the Member of Parliament for Westmorland and Lonsdale since 2005, when he ended 95 years of Tory rule.

Speaking at the event, Tim said: "It's an honour to be re-adopted as the Lib Dem candidate for Westmorland and Lonsdale.

"Everyone knows that national politics is broken, but here in the South Lakes we've worked hard and got things done for local people - whether it be our community campaigns like saving our mental health ward and Kendal's post office, or the 100,000 individual cases we've completed for local residents on vital issues like housing and social care.

"Serving local people and fighting their corner is why I stood for Parliament in the first place, and it would be a privilege to continue to do that."

Proposing Tim, Sylvia Emmott said: "I've known Tim for over 20 years, and I've seen up close how hard he works for our area, and the difference he has made to so many people's lives.

"He cares so much about helping people who are unable to help themselves.

"That's why it's got to be Tim on the 12th."
