South Lakes MP Tim Farron is encouraging local football clubs to apply for a chance of winning a £50,000 grant. The investment comes from Budweiser as part of their sponsorship of the FA cup over the next two seasons.

The Budweiser Club Futures programme aims to help clubs become more financially sustainable and play a bigger role in their local community by providing investment into their general facilities.

Budweiser Club Futures will give grants of £50,000 across eight regions to non-league clubs in steps 5-7 of the English Football pyramid each season over the next two years. And every year the eight successful clubs will also go to a public vote for the chance to win an additional super grant of £100,000.

Westmorland is part of the North West region which also includes: Cheshire, Cumberland Liverpool, Manchester, Lancashire, and the Isle of Man.

Tim said: "Following on from the Olympics it is important that we continue to encourage participation in grassroots sports,"

"We have had a great summer of sport and I want to encourage all clubs who are eligible to apply for a grant today. If anyone does bid please let me know and I will do whatever I can to help back their bid!"
