South Lakes MP Tim Farron has today committed his support for engineering as part of Tomorrow's Engineers Week and called for young people to seriously consider engineering as a career.

Tomorrow's Engineers Week, running from 4-8 November 2013, is a collaborative effort between industry and government to change outdated perceptions about engineering careers among young people, their parents and teachers. The activity taking place during the week demonstrates that engineering offers rewarding, creative and well-paid job opportunities for young women as well as men, in a broad range of dynamic environments like fashion, music, sport, computer gaming, construction, film special effects and environmental technology.

Tim said: "Engineering makes a huge impact on almost every aspect of our everyday lives and many people simply don't realise how valuable engineering skills are. I hope Tomorrow's Engineers Week will encourage young people in Cumbria - particularly young women - to look at careers in engineering with fresh eyes."
