STATEMENT ON THE BOUNDARY COMMISSION’S INITIAL PROPOSALS
Commenting following the release of the Boundary Commission for England's initial proposals for parliamentary constituency boundaries, South Lakes MP Tim Farron said:
"Clearly these proposals would mean huge changes for communities in Cumbria. At this stage they are only proposals and if communities object to them there is every chance they will change.
"Whatever happens, nothing will prevent me from continuing to work as hard as I have ever done for all the people and all the communities of Westmorland and Lonsdale. I will continue to be Westmorland's man in Westminster, campaigning to bring radiotherapy services, bring well-paid jobs and affordable homes to our area."
Paul Trollope, the Liberal Democrats' agent in Cumbria added:
"Today's announcement contains initial proposals which are now open to two periods of public consultation. We believe there are alternative proposals which better reflect local communities in Cumbria, and we will be fully engaging with the Boundary Commission's process. That said, we estimate that the Liberal Democrats would have a clear notional majority in the proposed Kendal & Penrith seat."
