Sports Club Cash Boost To Repair Flood Damage

24 Mar 2016

Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron has welcomed the decision by Sport England to invest over £23,000 in sports facilities in the constituency to help repair flood damage.

Sport England set up an Emergency Flood Relief Fund to help restore pitches and repair community sports facilities damaged by the floods in December.

This fund has given a total of £23,183 to six organisations in the constituency:

  • IBIS Sports and Social Club - £5,000
  • Ambleside Bowling Club - £1,000
  • Abbot Hall Bowling Club - £3,383
  • Grange-over-Sands Golf Club - £5,000
  • National Trust - £1,800
  • Kendal Cricket Club - £7,000

Tim said: "I'm delighted that this money will be spent on sports facilities in our area. These facilities are not just a way for local people to stay fit and healthy, they are also social hubs in the community. Many sports clubs and facilities were badly damaged in the floods, so this money is very welcome."
