South Lakeland is top again for business start ups - Farron

24 Mar 2015
Creating a thriving high street in Kendal and other towns in South Lakeland is a key Council Plan priority for SLDC.

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed the news that South Lakeland was the top place in Cumbria for businesses to be created.

Figures collated by the organisation Banksearch show that there were 589 business start-ups in Cumbria in the quarter Nov 14-Jan 15. The highest number of start-ups, 163 was in South Lakeland (28% of all start-ups) followed by Carlisle with 111 (19%) and Allerdale with 89 (15%).

As in previous quarters, the highest number of start-ups was in the real estate & professional services sector. This was followed by construction and recreation, personal & community services.

Tim has previously said that our area is the 'start up hub' of Cumbria, after the last set of figures again showed that South Lakeland had created the most 'start up' businesses in the county.

Tim said: "These figures show that the entrepreneurial spirit is alive in the South Lakes. Every business that is started up offers a chance for someone to strike out on their own.

"When small businesses in the Lakes thrive, then so does our economy."
