South Lakeland is the 'Business heart of Cumbria' says Farron

Creating a thriving high street in Kendal and other towns in South Lakeland is a key Council Plan priority for SLDC.

Tim Farron has welcomed the news that South Lakeland was yet again the top place in Cumbria for businesses to be created.

There were 565 business start-ups in Cumbria in the quarter Dec 14-Feb 15. The highest number of start-ups, 154 was in South Lakeland (27% of all start-ups) followed by Allerdale with 102 (18%) and Carlisle with 100 (18%). The data came from BankSearch, a survey which collects data from the main suppliers of business banking services: Barclays, Co-operative Bank, HSBC, Lloyds Banking Group, Royal Bank of Scotland Group, Santander and TSB Bank.

Tim said: "Seeing so many entrepreneurs setting up their own businesses is fantastic and shows that our area is the start-up hub of the county. These businesses are creating more jobs and more wealth; all of that is re-invested in local shops and our high street."
