People living with the most vulnerable must be allowed to be off work - MP

31 Mar 2020

South Lakes MP Tim Farron is urging the Government to allow time off work for those who live with people who are being 'shielded' in order to limit the risk of spreading coronavirus in their household.

The issue has been raised several times by worried constituents during Tim's regular phone surgeries.

Tim said: "Many people who live with - and often care for - the most vulnerable, are worried that they are still having to go into work and run the risk of bringing the virus back home.

"These people shouldn't have to choose between putting food on the table and potentially putting their loved ones at risk.

"The Government should make it clear that these people are permitted to be off work with full sick pay.

"It doesn't seem right to me that we should be putting these vulnerable people at risk because of this anomaly in the rules.

"If you are one of these people then please do get in touch and tell me about your situation because it will help me to persuade the Government to make the right decision, off the right guidance so that families can stay safe."
