Northern have bitten off more than they can chew on the Lakes Line – MP

24 Jul 2018

Commenting on the announcement that only three quarters of services cancelled by Northern will return from 30th July, South Lakes MP Tim Farron said:

"Northern are clearly still struggling, and as a result letting down passengers across the North West.

"While I welcome the news that a full service is due to be restored to the Lakes Line from 30 July, I'm left fearful that Northern have bitten off more than they can chew again.

"We saw when they introduced the shuttle service on the Lakes Line that the service on the Furness Line took a massive hit. This has all the hallmarks of the same thing happening again.

"Northern have had their opportunity. It's time to strip them of their franchise, and introduce a franchise in Cumbria that's focused on Cumbria and the needs of passengers who are all too often treated as though they are at the end of the line."
