No threat to Bowness’ Royalty Cinema

6 Jun 2018

Today, South Lakeland District Council confirmed that the future of the Royalty cinema in Bowness is not under threat.

Andrew Jarvis, District Councillor for Windermere and South Lakeland District Council's portfolio holder for Finance said:

"South Lakeland District Council have been very clear that they have no intention to close the Royalty Cinema in Bowness. For anyone to suggest otherwise is complete fiction.

"This is a key cultural and community asset that is highly valued by both local people and visitors. I hope to see the Royalty continue to serve our area as a vibrant independent cinema for many years.

"It's a shame that Cllr Ben Berry and the Conservatives have again resorted to scaremongering and created unnecessary anxiety for local people. It is only last year that he 'cried wolf' when saying there were plans to knock-down the Windermere library. There were no such plans then, just as there are no plans to destroy our cinema."
