'No Ifs. No Buts. Do It.' - Farron Calls For Action Following Flood Report
South Lakes MP Tim Farron has called for action following the release of the government's Cumbria Flood Action Plan today, saying "No ifs. No Buts. Do it."
The report, published by the Environment Department today, recognises the need for a whole-systems approach to flood defences in the South Lakes.
It also includes the government's commitment to spend £24million on a flood defence scheme in Kendal, Burneside and Staveley. Schemes in Ambleside and Grasmere are also mentioned, but have not been allocated any funding.
Tim said: "This report is welcome but it's just more words and people in the Lakes have had a lot of that. We now want action, and that needs to be backed up with new cash.
"This report restates what previous ones have - that places like Burneside, Kendal and Staveley need better defences - and recycles the previous funding announcements.
"This report also mentions Ambleside and Grasmere but has no new cash attached. The Prime Minister said the Government would do all it could to help.
"My challenge to them is this - you have the report, now stump up the cash. No ifs. No buts. Do it."
