MP welcomes new power cut hotline
South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed a new national hotline which will be launched next week for residents to report power cuts and get advice.
The new "105" service, which goes live on the 6th September, will put residents directly in touch with their local electricity network operator - the company that manages the cables, power lines and substations in their area.
The free service will enable residents to report and get information about power cuts, as well as to raise concerns about the safety of over- or underground cables and substations.
Tim said: "I welcome the introduction of the 105 number. Many people wouldn't know who to call to report a power cut, so I hope having this simple number will help that. Getting caught in a power blackout can be a scary time, particularly if it is caused by storms or flooding, and I hope this number will allow people to easily get hold of accurate information. I look forward to hearing from constituents about how this works in practice."
