New commuter train for Dent

Local MP Tim Farron has welcomed the introduction of a new early morning commuter train for Dent on the Settle-Carlisle line.

From today, people living in and around Dent will be able to catch the 7.05am train to Leeds and the 6.47am train to Carlisle to commute to work or go shopping.

Before today, no trains stopped at the station until after 9am making it difficult for people to commute to work

The new service comes after constant pressure put on Northern by local people, the parish council, Tim and local Lib Dem district councillor Ian Mitchell.

Ian said: "It's absolutely brilliant that people here in Dent now don't have to travel a long distance to get on the train to commute to Carlisle or Leeds."

Tim said: "I'm delighted that Dent has this new commuter service after years of lobbying from local people.

"Given everything else that's going on with the Lakes and Furness Lines at the moment, it gives us some encouragement that if you campaign for better rail services - you can win."
