South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed nearly £500,000 for St Mary's Hospice in Ulverston which is used by many residents in South Lakeland. Tim has said the money is much needed but has called on local residents to continue to support the much loved service.

Three hospices in Cumbria are to share in more than £1.1m of government money. St Mary's in Ulverston is getting almost £470,000 to build a new day hospice and education suite.

Tim said: "This funding is very welcome news. I'm delighted the government have given this funding to a much loved local service. Hospice services make a massive difference. St Mary's offer amazing care which is compassionate, and of highest quality. I regularly lobby government ministers to do more to support local hospices and this money is really welcome.

"Hospices still need support so please do keep giving generously to St Mary's as our hospices rely heavily on donations from the public."
