MP welcomes funding for Kendal Citizens Advice Bureau

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed the news that Kendal Town Council has given £4,000 to the town's Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB). The grant was approved earlier this week by the council's grants committee, chaired by Cllr Matt Severn, and adds to money already given by South Lakeland District Council.

In February of last year the CAB board announced that the Kendal's CAB had become 'financially unviable' and had to close. However the CAB in Kendal re-opened its doors recently and is now open part time to give help and advice to people finding it hard to deal with financial and legal issues.

Tim welcomed the news in May that the CAB planned to re-open its doors for two days a week in Kendal and he hopes that this funding will give the centre the financial certainty it needs.

Tim said: "I really welcome the news that Kendal Town Council have given this funding. It will make a big difference and added to the money already given by South Lakeland District Council, I hope that it puts this vital and much needed service on an a firmer financial footing."

Deputy Mayor of Kendal Chris Hogg added: "As Kendal Town Councillors we always supported this important service in the past and are delighted to be able to do so again. It is important to have free, impartial advice for people facing a variety of problems. Many residents of Kendal will benefit greatly from return of this service."
