MP Welcomes Flood Grant Advice Centre

5 Aug 2016

South Lakeland MP Tim Farron has welcomed the news that a free flood grant advice centre will open in the centre of Kendal.

The 'one stop shop' will open at 3 Blackhall Road in Kendal, having moved from its previous temporary location at the Asda car park.

The centre will support residents and businesses affected by last winter's floods, and help them to apply for government grants to make their properties more flood resilient. The shop will be open from 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday, or can be contacted on 01539 769057.

The centre will be run by advisors from the Business Emergency Resilience Group (BERG), which is part of 'Business In The Community', a national charity backed by HRH Prince Charles. It is also working with South Lakeland District Council.

Tim said: "Last winter's floods were devastating for our area, and it is important that we do all we can to protect ourselves in the future. The BERG centre can advise both residents and businesses not just on which flood prevention measures to take, but on how they might be able to access government grants to pay for it. I would encourage local people to go along."
