MP welcomes £8 million for extra school places in Cumbria

Cumbrian MP Tim Farron has expressed his delight at the news that the county will receive over £8 million for more school places.

The Government has announced that £2.35 billion will go towards creating these spaces. This, combined with money already being spent, means that Cumbria is set to get more than £8 million.

The county council has a three year allocation of funding and will be planning ahead to ensure every child has a school place. The Government has already created 260,000 new school places and this announcement means thousands more are on the way.

Tim said: "I am always lobbying Ministers and working to make the case for more schools funding for our county.

"It is great news for young people in Cumbria that the Government has found billions of extra funding to ensure every child has a place at school. This money will help ensure that every child can fulfil their potential. Many schools in rural areas are bound to have more school places, but some schools have beyond their limit and are over-subscribed.

"Given the success of our schools in South Lakeland, I would hope that a large chunk of that money comes here to help them build on their good work."
