Local MP Tim Farron has said he is 'delighted' at the news that Cumbrian museums are in line for a major investment.

The 16 Renaissance Major partners will together receive approximately £20 million a year in funding for the next three years as part of its Renaissance programme for regional museums. One of successful bids was the Cumbria Museums Consortium consisting of the Wordsworth Trust, Lakeland Arts Trust and Tullie House from Carlisle - which could receive a £3 million-plus boost.

Recently the Guardian newspaper said "The Cumbria group stands out as appealing, inventive and new".

Tim commented: "I was delighted to support the joint bid and press the case for the museums. The South Lakes is rapidly becoming a beacon for the arts in the North West and long may that continue!"
