MP welcomes £1 million lakes transport funding
South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed the news that almost £1million will be invested in a transport project in Cumbria, following a successful bid for Government funding.
The announcement by the Department for Transport will see a new programme launched, after a joint bid to the Government by Cumbria County Council and the Lake District National Park Authority. The new funding will be used to develop schemes for the Ullswater valley; Keswick & Borrowdale; and the south eastern approaches into the central Lake District. Shuttle bus services, water transport, pay-as-you-drive car hire, and development of the Cumbria Cycleway are all part of the plans.
Tim said: "The tourism sector is worth billions to our county's economy and I hope that this funding will help improve our transport infrastructure and foster our environmental credentials. I'd like to pay tribute to the County Council and the Lake District National Park Authority for securing this funding."
