MP visits arts centre under construction on old Goodacre site

7 Jan 2014
Yesterday local MP Tim Farron visited the Yarn Rooms on Aynam Road to see the ongoing work to create an arts space in Kendal.

The project will make use of the post-industrial factory space, formerly the Goodacres carpet factory, five minutes' walk from the centre of Kendal. The premises is currently being restored by Mealbank Estates. The Yarn Rooms aims to provide affordable space for local creative artists - a place where designers, artists, sculptors, photographers, film-makers and others can meet, work, participate, learn and relax.

The centre will offer affordable workspace for local creative artists to work. It will also host an independent art gallery for private shows and shared desk space with wifi/printer/phones for new start-ups & freelancers. As well as all that it will hold an photographic studio with infinity wall for hire and open space for creative lectures/films/talks and festivals.

Tim said: "It was fantastic to visit the site and see the project. It was wonderful to receive a tour from Andy and Paul. The team have big plans and I know that the centre will play a key part in the cultural life of Kendal in the months and years ahead."
