MP Urges Voter Registration One Month Ahead Of Referendum
South Lakeland MP Tim Farron has urged voters in the South Lakes to make sure they are registered to vote, with just one month left until the European referendum.
On the 23rd June, the UK will hold a nationwide referendum to decide whether to remain part of the European Union. Residents need to be registered to vote in order to take part in this referendum.
Registering to vote only takes around five minutes, and can be done here: www.gov.uk/register-to-vote You will need your National Insurance number. The deadline for registration is the 7th June.
Residents who were registered to vote in either the May elections and still live at the same address do not need to register again.
Tim has taken part in a range of events to promote the 'Remain' side of the argument. Today, Tim spoke in a debate on a special edition of the Jeremy Vine show all about the referendum, which was broadcast live from Dent.
Tim said: "The European Referendum is going to be a hugely important vote for the future of our country - not just for this generation, but for those to come. The result will have repercussions not just for our economy now, but also for Britain's place in the world in the future. We are better off and safer as part of Europe, and are better able to face the global challenges we need to deal with. It is vitally important that everyone gets to have their say on this vote, so I urge residents to make sure that they are registered ahead of the deadline."
