South Lakes MP Tim Farron is urging local people to support two local good causes as they battle for a slice of £400,000 of green energy funding being offered by Marks & Spencer.

Coniston Mountain Rescue Team and Community Energy Cumbria have put themselves forward for part of the funding.

Coniston Mountain Rescue team are urging people to back their plans for photovoltaic panels on the station roof to reduce carbon emissions and generate the charity some income.

Community Energy Cumbria if it attracts enough votes and wins a regional award of £12,500 it will transform the chances of their project delivering meaningful benefits to local communities across Cumbria.

To vote please go to the M&S Energy website which is here: https://www.mandsenergyfund.com/

M&S will notify the winners by the end of October 2015 and the winners shall have 28 days to accept the funding prize.

Tim said: "I am delighted that two amazing local groups have put themselves forward for funding. Both these organisations do a wonderful job and I am urging local people to support them both."
